En cuanto leí la premisa de esta novela, supe que la iba a disfrutar muchísimo, porque tiene todos los elementos que me encantan: una heroína rebelde, un protagonista masculino aparentemente despiadado y misterioso, y una proximidad forzada que inevitablemente genera tensión. Además, él es un fae. No necesito nada más en una historia: te la compro.

Ana es una joven que ha estado encerrada y aislada del mundo exterior desde su nacimiento debido a su falta de poderes mágicos. Tanto es así, que necesita tomar un remedio diario para poder sobrevivir en este mundo lleno de magia. Las cosas empiezan a complicarse para ella cuando no sólo empieza a temer por la seguridad de su querida cuidadora —la persona más cercana a una madre que ha tenido—, sino también por la suya propia. Por ese motivo, decide trazar un plan, escapar y por fin disfrutar de su libertad. Sin embargo, todo da un giro inesperado cuando se cruza con Leónidas, el Príncipe de las Pesadillas, heredero del reino de Filusia… y, a partir de ese momento, su vida cambia para siempre.

El inicio de este libro fue una auténtica delicia. Sólo con leer el prólogo, la autora consiguió crear una atmósfera exuberante, llena de sombras, misterio y suspense que me enamoró. Debo decir, eso sí, que sentí que ese toque oscuro se quedó en segundo plano una vez los protagonistas se conocen y eso me decepcionó ligeramente. El ritmo es ágil y ligero, impulsado por el coqueteo y las réplicas ingeniosas entre los protagonistas. Ese, en mi opinión, fue otro de los puntos fuertes de la historia. De hecho, hubo escenas que me hicieron sonreír como una tonta y todo ello hizo que no pudiese dejar de leer.

En cuanto a los personajes, disfruté especialmente del pequeño grupo de faes inadaptados que conforma la guardia de Leon: cada uno tenía una personalidad tan marcada que aportaba mucho dinamismo a la narración. Se percibe la camaradería y la lealtad entre ellos, lo que hace difícil no encariñarse con estos personajes. También me fascinó la pareja principal, aunque debo admitir que me molestó un poco que la autora construyera tanta tensión entre ellos para luego hacer que, de repente, parecieran locamente enamorados sin una transición más natural. Me habría gustado un desarrollo más gradual, porque sentí que pasaron de no confiar el uno en el otro a convertirse en el centro de su universo demasiado rápido.

Aunque en la segunda mitad perdí un poco el interés —quizá porque ya había adivinado cómo terminaría la trama y la tensión entre los protagonistas se había apagado un poco—, me gustó mucho cómo la autora cerró la historia. Estoy deseando leer la secuela y conocer más sobre estos faes y los poderes mágicos que existen en este mundo.

As soon as I read the premise of this novel, I knew I was going to enjoy it a lot because it has all the elements I love: a rebellious heroine, a seemingly ruthless and mysterious male lead, and a forced proximity that’s bound to spark tension. Plus, he’s a fae. I don’t need anything else in a story: I’m in.

Ana is a young woman who has been locked up and cut off from the outside world since birth, due to her lack of magical powers. So much so that she has to take a daily remedy just to survive. Things start to get complicated when Ana begins to fear not only for the safety of her beloved caretaker — the closest thing she has ever had to a mother — but also for her own. Because of this, she decides to hatch a plan, escape, and finally enjoy her freedom. However, things take an unexpected turn when she runs into Leonidas, the Nightmare Prince, heir to the kingdom of Filusia — and from that moment on, her life changes forever.

The beginning of this book was an absolute delight. Just by reading the prologue alone, the author managed to create a lush atmosphere full of shadows, mystery, and suspense. I loved it! The pacing felt light and quick, helped by the flirty and witty banter between the main characters. That, in my opinion, was another strong point of the story. In fact, some scenes had me smiling like a an idiot, and I couldn’t stop reading.

When it comes to the characters, I especially enjoyed the little group of misfit faes — each one had such a distinctive personality, which brought a lot of dynamism to the story. You can feel the camaraderie and loyalty between them, and that makes it hard not to grow attached to all of them. I was also fascinated by the main couple, though I have to admit it annoyed me a little how the author built up so much tension between them, only for them to suddenly seem madly in love out of nowhere. I would’ve liked to see a more gradual development, because it felt like they went from not trusting each other to becoming the center of each other’s universe too quickly.

Even though I lost a bit of interest in the second half — maybe because I had already guessed how it would end and the initial spark between the protagonists had disappeared a bit — I really liked how the author wrapped things up. I’m looking forward to reading the sequel and learning more about these faes and the magical powers that exist in this world.
