¡Hola, mininos! ¿Cómo estáis? Hoy vengo a hablaros de la segunda parte de la nueva trilogía de Jennifer L. Armentrout: The Harbinger. Por si no lo sabéis, esta se centra en Zayne, uno de los personajes que aparecen en su saga de gárgolas y demonios Los elementos oscuros. Insisto en que esta es la segunda parte, así que si todavía no habéis leído Tormenta y furia (ya publicado en español por Plataforma Neo) os recomiendo que lo hagáis antes de leer esta reseña.

Pude leer un ARC de esta novela gracias a Edelweiss+, ¡y menos mal! Me había quedado con las ganas de seguir leyendo a estos personajes y no iba a poder esperar a que se publicase. No tengo dificultad para leer en inglés, por eso utilizo habitualmente plataformas como Edelweiss+ o Netgalley, así que cuando vi que estaba disponible para solicitar tuve que probar suerte. No sabéis la ilusión que me hizo que la editorial aprobase mi solicitud y me dejase leer la novela antes de su publicación, ya que Armentrout es una escritora muy conocida y estaba casi segura de que no me darían prioridad a mí. Moraleja: por mucho que creáis que una editorial va a rechazar vuestra petición de un ejemplar, intentadlo. No perdéis nada. Dicho esto, ahora sí que sí os dejo con la reseña.

Tras el final de Tormenta y furia, la relación entre Zayne y Trin es complicada, dolorosa y bastante incómoda. Compartieron muchas cosas en el primer libro, pero ahora saben que  no pueden estar juntos porque está prohibido. La tensión entre ellos llega a ser desesperante en esta novela; es evidente que se atraen y no saben cómo hacerle frente, de ahí que terminen recurriendo a las bromas para poder tener una excusa para tocarse de la forma que desean. Sin embargo, tanto Zayne como Trin ceden en más de una ocasión —lógicamente, si no este libro sería muy aburrido— y es maravilloso. Saltan chispas y florecen todos esos sentimientos reprimidos que, día a día, tratan de ocultar al otro.

A pesar de que Zayne no se parece en nada al típico protagonista masculino de la autora —hay un claro contraste entre él y Roth, por ejemplo—, me gusta mucho como personaje. Es serio, responsable y tiene un gran sentido del deber, pero obviamente eso no significa que no tenga un lado picarón y desenfadado. En la intimidad, cuando está con Trin, llegamos a conocer a un guerrero atormentado por los fantasmas de su pasado, así como a un muchacho divertido y cariñoso que siempre presta atención a aquellos que le importan. Por su parte, Trin se refugia en la ira para sobrellevar la pérdida de una de las personas más importantes de su vida. No hay tiempo para lamentarse, no hay tiempo para ser débil, por lo que usa toda esa frustración y dolor para seguir matando demonios. Trin es un personaje valiente que roza la insensatez la mayoría de las veces, pero es innegable que tiene un gran corazón y que este es más frágil de lo que parece. Lo único que no me gustó de ella en esta novela es que se vuelve bastante celosa. Puedo entender que quiera saber más de Zayne porque él es hermético, frío incluso, pero hay varias escenas en las que discuten debido a este motivo y terminó sacándome de quicio la actitud insistente de ella.

En lo que se refiere a la trama, hay un giro muy predecible, pero que de alguna forma Armentrout compensa con el final. Tengo mucha curiosidad por ver a dónde nos lleva el camino que han tomado los personajes. Debo reconocer que esta novela es más larga que la mayoría de la autora y creo que se debe a que ha habido algunas pates de relleno que se podrían haber recortado, o esa es la sensación que me ha dado. Aun así, estoy disfrutando mucho con esta nueva saga y estoy deseando leer la continuación.

I was able to read an ARC of this novel thanks to Edelweiss+, so thank you very much! 

Today I am going to review the second book in the new trilogy by Jennifer L. Armentrout: The Harbinger. In case you do not know, this one focuses on Zayne, one of the characters from The Dark Elements series. I insist that this is the sequel, so if you have not read Storm and Fury yet, I recommend that you do so before reading this review.

After the end of Storm and Fury, the relationship between Zayne and Trin is complicated, painful, and quite awkward. They shared many things in the first book, but now they know that they cannot be together because it is forbidden. The tension between them becomes maddening in this novel; it is evident that they feel attracted to each other and they do not know what to do about it. That is why they end up resorting to jokes in order to have an excuse to touch the other in a way they know they should not. However, both Zayne and Trin give in on more than one occasion —otherwise this book would be very boring —and it is wonderful. They forget their duties and all those repressed feelings come to the surface! 

Despite the fact that Zayne is nothing like Armentrout’s typical male protagonist —there is a clear contrast between him and Roth, for example— I really like him as a character. He is serious, responsible and honourable, but obviously that does not mean that he does not have a mischievous side. When he is with Trin, we get to know a warrior that is haunted by the ghosts of his past, as well as a fun and loving boy who always pays attention to those who are precious to him. Trin takes refuge in her anger to cope with the loss of one of the most important people in her life. There is no time to cry, there is no time to be weak, so she uses all that frustration and pain to kill demons. Trin is a brave girl and yet foolish most of the time, but it is undeniable that she has a big and fragile heart. The only thing I did not like about her in this novel is that she becomes quite jealous. I can understand that she wants to get to know Zayne because he can be inscrutable or even cold sometimes, but there are several scenes where they argue because of her attitude and it was a bit annoying. 

When it comes to the plot, there is a very —very— predictable twist, but somehow Armentrout makes up for it with the ending. I am curious to see where she takes us now. I must admit that this novel is longer than most of hers and there have been some scenes that could have been trimmed, in my opinion. Still, I am really enjoying this new trilogy and am looking forward to reading the next book.
